Sullivan County runs along the Connecticut River from Charlestown north through Claremont and Cornish, then inland to Newport, Sunapee, Grantham and the hill towns of Lempster, Goshen and Washington. Fireplaces here fall into three groups. The Federal and Greek Revival houses in the older village centers often have original brick chimneys serving two or more openings. Postwar and mid century houses tend toward a single masonry fireplace in the main room. Newer construction near Lake Sunapee and Grantham leans toward sealed gas units. CENTURY 21 Highview Realty can tell them apart on a walkthrough.
